How to Carve a Jack-o-Lantern!
1. Choose the Right Pumpkin
Pick a pumpkin with a smooth surface and sturdy stem. Make sure it's the right size and shape for your design.
2. Gather Your Tools
You'll need a sharp knife, a spoon or scoop, a marker, and a bowl for the seeds.
3. Prepare Your Workspace
Lay down newspaper or a disposable tablecloth to catch the mess. Have a trash bag nearby for easy cleanup.
4. Cut the Top
Use a knife to cut a circular opening around the stem. Angle the cut slightly inward so the lid won't fall inside.
5. Scoop Out the Insides
Remove the seeds and pulp from inside the pumpkin. Scrape the inner walls until they are about 1 inch thick.
6. Draw Your Design
Use a marker to draw your Jack-O'-Lantern face or pattern on the pumpkin's surface. Keep it simple if you're a beginner.
7. Start Carving
Carefully carve out your design using a small serrated knife or a carving tool. Take your time to follow the lines accurately.
8. Refine the Details
After the main cuts are done, clean up the edges and refine any details. You can use smaller tools for precision.
9. Light It Up
Place a tea light or LED candle inside the pumpkin to illuminate your design. Make sure the light source is stable.
10. Display Your Masterpiece
Find the perfect spot to showcase your Jack-O'-Lantern, whether it's on your porch, window, or table.
